Application Procedure
and Interview Process
The University of Louisville utilizes the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). All applications must be submitted electronically by November 30th. We strongly encourage early application as interview slots fills quickly.
A completed application consists of the following:
Application/CV
USMLE-Step I & II
3 letters of Recommendation
Current Photo
Personal Statement
Medical School Transcript
Dean's Letter (After November 1st)
The General Surgery Review Committee will screen all applicants and invitations will be issued. Upon receipt of the invitation, please contact Ms. Molly Burke-Poole or Ms. Meghan Hubbs to arrange an interview. Approximately 80 candidates will be interviewed for the 8 categorical positions and the average step I is 236 and step II is 245 of those interviewed.

The 2010-2011 interview dates will be held on:
- Friday, November 11, 2011
- Friday, December 2, 2011
- Friday, January 13, 2012
The interview process begins at 6:30 a.m. and ends at approximately 3:00 p.m. Candidates will have 3 one-on-one interviews with General Surgery Faculty and small group interviews with Dr. Kelly McMasters, Chairman, Department of Surgery. General Surgery Residents will accompany the residency candidates throughout the day and will join them for lunch.
