Current otololaryngologic research efforts include ways to better evaluate and treat pediatric upper airway disorders including: cleft lip/palate, congenital airway abnormalities, pediatric voice disorders, nasal/oropharyngeal abnormalities, and other disorders that contribute to speech, swallowing and vocal dysfunction. Among the different types of research conducted here are:
- Expanding utility of office-based ultrasound for the head and neck surgeon
- The relationship between weight loss and health-related quality of life in persons treated for head and neck cancer
- Parathyroidectomy in the elderly population
- Metastatic cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma to the parotid and cervical lymph nodes
- Laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma
- Cancer of the oropharynx after chemoradiation
- Development of a telehealth intervention for head and neck cancer patients
- Hypocalcemia after neck exploration for untreated primary hyperparathyroidism
Future plans: To continue development of ENT research programs and to enhance and continue our educational programs.
