Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery
Established more than a century ago, this academic unit was one of the first of its kind in the country. The first lecturer in Ear, Nose, and Throat Disorders was Professor J.M. Bodine in 1871; Professor Bodine was later made the Dean of the School of Medicine. The first full-fledged academic unit in Ophthalmology, Otology and Laryngology was established in 1907 under the directorship of Dr. J. Morrison Ray making the University of Louisville among the first American medical schools with a full-time academic unit in Otolaryngology. Our rich heritage is further complemented by our contemporary change and growth. This growth has expanded our educational offerings to students and residents, enhanced our clinical capability and increased both the quality and quantity of research in our division.
